Sunflower Showdown

When's the best time to drink? All day errday. Best reason to drink? College sports of course.  I may not understand all the rules of football or basketball, but I love watching..and drinking during the game (mostly drinking). I live for competition and love how riled up crowds of fans get during sports games.

Cheers to dark beer! Deschutes Abyss Imperial Stout

If you live in KC, or Kansas for that matter, you know one of the biggest rivalries is between KU and K-State. This last weekend I went to  the Ale House out in Westport (check out Kesh's previous post "Is Gambling a Problem?") to watch the KU vs K-State basketball game.

Now let me preface this- I personally do not care that much about these two teams as I am a Wichita State University alum (Kesh graduated from Missouri State University which is WSU's rival school. Thankfully we have somehow learned to get a long) but I do have a bit of allegiance to both schools. My two older sisters are KU grads, and one of my closest friends is a KU grad as well- Plus Lawrence is an amazing little town!  As for K State- I spent many weekends in Manhattan during my college days (and some now) to visit friends and hang out in the Ville. I can't say I've had a bad time in either city.

Throw Back..Tuesday... to a College night in Lawrence with the very tan Chelsea and a Tailgate in Manhattan, cant forget the short bus.

The origin of the rivalry can be traced back to when the two cities (Manhattan and Lawrence) were competing to be the site of a new University. Manhattan was originally chosen to be the home of the new state school, but a rep from Lawrence vetoed the bill to establish the college. As we all know, both schools were eventually established, but that was not good enough to end the battle. And although the two schools sports teams did not play each other until decades later, some still believe the rivalry can be traced back to that bill from the 1860s. I guess Kansans hold grudges...

As for the game last Saturday- KU dominated. It's really entertaining to witness how quickly friends from the two different schools can turn on each other during the games. It gets really intense here in Kansas. I think most of the fans and alum have come to terms that K-State has football and KU has Basketball. So we can all kinda be friends...at least til the Big 12 tournaments start.

Hi Ashlee!
I like to wear KU to bug this K-Stater
To all my little Jayhawks and Wildcats - Maybe one day you can get along. Til then I'll enjoy watching the games and listening to people bicker about which school is better. Im just here to watch and drink beer.

 Let's go Missouri Valley!

Yes. I know how ridiculous and semi-inappropriate the WSU mascot is, but those Bears are not intimidating at all.

Superbowl Food Hangover

'Twas the day after the Super Bowl
and all through the office
not a creature was stirring
cause they were hungover as fuck.

We are feeling some pains from not only alcohol consumption- we started the evening with power hour…and ended with Mama Juana** shots- but food too. We ate so much we are still suffering from the itis* at work.
Clockwise from top left: bacon wrapped lil' smokies, rotel dip, pulled pork, & dirt cake. Clearly we're fans of the crock pot.
Before attempting a homemade Whiskey Sour. The recipe was likely legit, but it was a bartender fail.

Alcohol hangover remedy: Jimmy Johns, Gatorade, and sleep

Food hangover remedy: juice cleanse, Alka Seltzer, Tums, more food (not sure why eating a lot leads to us wanting to eat more), and sleep

Sleeping solves most of life's problems.

*The "itis", for those of you who don't know, is what we all experience after
pushing our stomachs to the limit while consuming typically unhealthy food. Per
Urban Dictionary, it is "the general feeling of lethargy and well-being experienced after eating a satisfying meal." This commonly occurs on your major holidays- Thanksgiving, Christmas, Superbowl Sunday, etc. If you have not experienced the itis- step your food game up IMMEDIATELY

**Mama Juana is a drink from the Dominican Republic that is concocted by allowing rum, red wine, and honey to soak in a bottle with tree bark and herbs. The taste is similar to port wine and the color is a deep red. (per Wikipedia. Legit source) K & LDye's souvenir from their honeymoon last year.

What did we learn from the Super Bowl this year?
-We still don’t know much about football, but the Seahawks pretty much let
the Patriots win in the end
    -    Lenny Kravitz does not age
    -    Missy Elliot still got it
    -    Katy Perry likes dancing with sharks
       and
    -    Nationwide Commericals are kinda depressing...

Game Day- Superbowl XLIX

Superbowl Sunday is finally upon us!
Even though most people are losing their shit over their excitement for the game itself-I'm most excited about the commercials and the halftime performance.

Kim K graciously gave us an early preview of her Super bowl commercial --->  #KimsDataStash. As a Kardashian fan I thought it was pretty humorous, but I'm going to need a little more than that to top my favorite recent commercial. I can guarantee if they show a "Game of War" commercial that it will get my vote for the worst commercial. First it ruined Trivia Crack, now it's encroaching on the super bowl. Not cool.

How are we feeling about our musical entertainment, Katy Perry? I'm not the biggest fan - she's neither here nor there for me, but she's clearly universally liked with the almost 14 million followers on Instagram. Whether you're a fan of her or not, you have to admit this Pepsi selection is better than what we were getting a few years back. Janet and her boob really screwed us for a while. Thanks to that stunt we got to see/hear some very uncool performances during the superbowl for a while. If Katy Perry's not quite your flava, Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz will be joining the pop start on stage.
Who could forget this trash bag getup?

Lenny

As I've mention previously, I love a good bet. LDye and I have bet on the superbowl game every year since we met. I'm going for the Patriots this year. I'm basing this decision on the fact that odds of a team going to the superbowl two years in a row and winning both games is slim. This has been accomplished by only seven teams in the past.

Green Bay Packers (Super Bowls I and II)
Miami Dolphins (Super Bowls VII and VIII)
Pittsburgh Steelers (twice: Super Bowl IX and X, and Super Bowl XIII and XIV)
San Francisco 49ers (Super Bowl XXIII and XXIV)
Dallas Cowboys (Super Bowl XXVII and XXVIII)
Denver Broncos (Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII)
New England Patriots (Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX)

Yes, I did my research because I don't like to lose. If I/the Patriots win, I get rollerblades! [This is real life. I'm 26 years old and I want blades.] After writing the list out, I'm somewhat regretting my decision because that's a lot of teams to win it back to back. If LDye/the Seahawks win, I'll be footing the bill for an upcoming dinner date at Chuy's. Let's do this, Pats. Momma needs a new pair of roller blades.

Can't wait for this to be me

Side note: how do we get the Superbowl to come to KC? Start a petition? Let's get on that.

Time to put on the stretchy pants and eat some food,
-K

I think I played a fun game with myself called "how many times can I say 'super bowl' in this post?"

Feel free to re-read and drink every time you see "super bowl"
