We did it! LDye and I made it to our one year anniversary! Holla!
Back in the day, this used to be no big deal, but these days some don't even make it to year one- which makes me super sad- but let's be honest, marriage ain't easy. They* say the first year is the hardest. This could be because traditionally Mr. and Mrs.'s? didn't live together until they were married. Then immediately after getting hitched they had to deal with combining shit, tossing duplicates of shit, getting used to being in each other's space, and a lack of mystery in the relationship (you know what I'm talking about guys. How many times do you have to poop in one day?!) However LDye and I took the untraditional route of living in sin. Don't tell mom and dad. Just kidding, they obviously knew. My hubs and I moved in together a little more than a year before we got married. We signed on our home while we were still single...that's when the c o u n t d o w n began meaning he had put a ring on it, ammirite? I didn't verbally tell him that, but I'm sure he could see it in my eyes!

Anyway, fast forward a couple of years are we're here. 365 days into our marriage, as of April 26th.
Unfortunately, we spent most of our anniversary traveling back from LA, but we still made time to try a bite of our wedding cake and drink some champs for a mini celebration. Honestly, the cake was sick. Whoever thought it should be a thing to freeze the top part of your wedding cake to eat on your first anniversary was cray. It was frost bitten nastiness. Thank goodness for the bottle of bubbly to wash it down.

The main event space at The Bauer |
Our ceremony and reception were at The Bauer in downtown KC! What a gem! When my best gal/MOH stumbled across The Bauer, it was still a diamond in the rough. The space was in the process of a renovation during our first visit. Some may still think it's in a reno stage because of the exposed brick and old warehouse feel, but that's what attracted us to it. Our decor was minimal because of the city loft look, the string lights, and the gorgeous view when the sun set. Our guest list included 100 or so of our family and friends and there was plenty of room to accommodate everyone shuffling into the cocktail hour space during the room flip. We didn't hear any complaints about the event space and we all know bitches like to complain about weddings.
I hate to brag, but our wedding was kinda the shit. Our ceremony was short and sweet then we partied. It was definitely one for the books and there was no shortage of dancing (thanks to the dj) or drinking. Helpful Wedding Day Tips: 1. Take it e a s y on the pre-ceremony wine. Drink a glass to calm the nerves and relax yourself, but don't get weird at two in the afternoon. 2. Your wedding is not the time to show off your Fireball-shooting skills. If you choose to ignore either of these tips, you will be a hot mess in front of your guests and have lots of classy photos like these:

Not the best idea when your grandparents and brand new In-Laws are nearby.
Then this happens...

We've got moves Photo Cred: Abundant Life Photography Our photographers were awesome! Abundant Life P h o t o g r a p h y is an adorable couple duo. It worked out perfectly to have two photographers to capture girls being girls and guys being guys in the hours leading up to "I do". They did an amazing job of getting a mix of candid photos as well as more formal photos. |
The Ceremony was wonderful- I have sat through some looooong ass ceremonies before and it's miserable. I think most guests appreciate the quick, "I love you, I love you too. You are married" type. The Bauer was Bomb. Great views of the city at night. The venue was the perfect size for the amount of people that came to the wedding AND Its in a great location in KC. I loved that you walk in downstairs to an art gallery and you walk up to all wood floors and open ceilings. I did not follow the side note tips...I partook in some of that fireball and things got weird (as you can see in the above photos) I felt it the next day.
Cheers to 100 more years,
-K & J
Time to go shopping! The traditional year one anniversary gift is paper. Is it okay that the only reason I know this is because of Gone Girl?
*I don't know who they are, but someone says this.

How glorious vow renewal party! Seems like the bride really enjoyed dancing in her wedding party! That’s pretty cool. And yeah, the party was really stunning. I loved the arrangements of this wedding.
ReplyDeleteThanks Zerry ht! We had such a good time and wish we could replay that day again!
