Workin' on our Fitness

This week Kesh and Jac tried a new work out spot in Leawood called The Body Lab.

Kesh stumbled across this fitness spot online while looking for some hot places to work out in Kansas City. The article stated this is a favorite of celebrities and implied our bodies would resemble those of Kim K and Sofia Vergara. That alone was enough to make us want to see what's up at The Body Lab.

"Lab"  made us wonder. Is this a true labratory? Do we need to prepare ourselves for some scientific body potions? Nope, just a good ol fashioned workout to get our bums in shape because sadly, Skinny Pills don't work...ask Anna Nicole Smith. Too Soon?

We wandered into The Body Lab not knowing what to expect. The first thing we saw were a bunch of large contraptions they call cradles that had about twenty moving pieces including straps and pulleys (Cue the Fifty Shades of Grey reference).
The other ladies in the class were regulars and helped us out before the instructor came in-- as they could clearly see we didn't have a clue where to go or what to do. Note: to those of you who are interested in checking it out-you don't wear shoes OR socks. This skeeved us out a bit, but we went with it. (You can purchase foot grips for $15 in the class. This is suggested for those who go back on the reg. Otherwise you'll look like a fool slippin' and slidin' everywhere.)

Next the instructor came in, chatted with us newbies for a bit, and warned us it was fast paced. "Just try to keep up as much as possible and don't be intimidated" she said. Ha! "Fast paced" was an understatement. The point of this work out is to keep moving and working multiple muscles in the 45 minute session giving your body little rest. She wasn't f u c k i n g kidding. The instructor would call out a move like "Donkey Kick" or "French Twist" and we'd watch as the other ladies moved about like contortionists. Our instructor was kind enough to physically move our bodies into the positions they were supposed to be in because we couldn't figure it out ourselves.
The Body lab (in a nutshell):
Positives: Instructor was extremely upbeat, patient, and gave us lots of needed attention
Negatives: Our bodies do not move in the ways the work out wants them to.

We don't have any photos of us because we were too busy getting our asses kicked by the machines. However, we can say we didn't look this graceful or happy while we were getting our asses kicked by the machines.

Our legs were shaking within in the first five minutes- so you know it was a good work out- or that we are extremely out of shape. There was a point that called for us to work our cores... we both had to put our hands near our faces several times to lessen the risk of what seemed like an unavoidable face plant onto the floor. This is not an exaggeration. There were moments when we saw our lives flash before our eyes. It's been real we thought.

Sometimes a good sweat is needed to let you know for sure you worked out hard, but even without the intense sweat (we were merely glistening) we knew it was a goodie. Translation: This would be a good work out before work or on your lunch break because you won't return to the office smelling like a wildebeest.

Although we were spent after the near hour-long session, the next day we thought we'd miraculously avoided being sore. Little did we know it was just delayed. First came the sore abs, then legs, then ass... and we were sore for several days to come. This was the confirmation that was a good work out (and would be worth the $$$) and our summer bodies will be thanking us later.
FYI: The Body Lab has some high prices. Having a hot bod will cost ya. Who woulda thought a work out facility in fancy pants Leawood would be expensive...? Keep in mind though, the first session is fo free! That way you can test out the contraptions and see if this is something you're into before you dish out your cash.
Shorts and swimsuits are out at the mall. Better get your booty* in gear.
Check out The Body Lab. It's somewhat painful, but you won't regret it!
