Are you addicted to Trivia Crack, but find the questions to be no match for your plethora of knowledge and quick wit? We felt the same way so we thought we'd try out one of Westport Flea Market's trivia nights last Wednesday. We would like to say that the Trivia Crack app prepared us for the wild world of trivia, but it did not. Not even close. We were quickly humbled during the first topic when we realized we don't know it all- this was a tough pill to swallow- and our intelligence was called into question by the end of the night. (Lack of pop culture knowledge + beer = you lose at trivia.)
How Trivia Night works at Westport Flea Market:
1. Gather your dream team. Teams of up to 10 are allowed to play.
2. Get yo money. It may be 2015, but these guys won't accept your plastic. If you forget (even though we're telling you now) there's an ATM inside. The cash is for your food, drinks, and $5 per person to play- which is used for a cash prize. Holla!
3. Be early. Not only do you want to get there far enough in advance to get a good table (good meaning in clear view of the screen because it's used during trivia and big enough for your group)
4. Eat. After you've claimed your table, go to the bar to order your food. This rule was reiterated to us newbies several times by a trivia night vet before we got there because "you'll look like an idiot if you try to order food from the server and they're not very nice." We did what we were told and ordered our burgers** problem free from the bar because nobody likes an idiot. Side note: from our experience, the servers were very friendly. Maybe they're only "not very nice" if you ask them for food.
**Let's take a break from the rules to talk about the food. These burgers were mind blowing. We can be honest and say burgers aren't really our expertise because a fancy burger to us could be found at Sonic. Ordering a burger at a resturaunt isn't our steeze. However, this is something the Westport Flea Market is known for and when in Rome... We both agree that we weren't let down- even after thinking about them all day long at work. There website boasts "The best burger in KC" and they ain't liein'.
5. Drink. We assume we don't need to tell you this, but we all know what happens when we assume.
6. Play. The rest of the night is dedicated to battling it out against the other teams. Trivia starts at 8p on Wednesdays and 9p on Thursdays.
The game consists of seven topics, five questions in each. That might sound like a lot of questions, but you only get one minute to answer each so it goes by incredibly fast. The topics vary each week, but some examples from last week are: Fake Planets i.e "What planet are the Coneheads from?", Sports, Movie Posters, Authors, etc. Ya, Trivia Crack is child's play compared to this shit.
The last topic of the night was Mash Ups! This is by far our favorite category. We knew prior to getting there that this would be a category at some point and we felt we'd adequately studied*. But this was not enough. You have to be quick due to the time limitation. Our biggest... pickle?.. if you will was that stupid kind of awesome song from the '90s being mashed with another song. It goes "Groove is in the heart, groove is in the heeeeearrrrrt." E v e r y o n e knows that song, but no one knows who it is. Who the fuck is Deee-Lite? That's not even a name. Needless to say, we did not get that one or the points. Not that we're bitter.

We know you don't have plans this Wednesday or Thursday because it's a school night, so we challenge you all to get to Westport Flea Market for Trivia... and to win. Along with idiots, no body likes a loser.
Better luck to us next time,
- K & J
*adequately studied= we been listening to the radio since '88.
Sounds like a good way to spend a Wednesday night.
